Menparekraf: Bali Hosts the Peak Event for World Tourism Day 2022

Jakarta, August 8th 2022 - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Menparekraf), Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, announces that Bali will officially host the peak event of the 42nd World Tourism Day on September 27, 2022.


“In the 42nd World Tourism Day celebration, Indonesia has the honor to host the peak celebration of the World Tourism Day, which will take place in Bali on September 27, 2022,” according to Menparekraf Sandiaga during the Weekly Press Briefing at Sapta Pesona Building, Central Jakarta, Monday (8/8/2022).


He said that the 42nd World Tourism Day will carry the theme “Rethinking Tourism”. UNWTO (United Nations of World Tourism Day) will also promote this theme through media partners.


“This theme aims to inspire discussion about rethinking tourism for development. Including in terms of education and occupation, and discussion about the impact of tourism on the sustainability of the planet earth and various opportunities that can develop in a sustainable way,” he added.

Sandiaga explained that the series of the 42nd World Tourism Day will be filled with a multi-stakeholder discussion panel with the theme “Rethinking Tourism as a Key Element on Recovery” and also a discussion with the theme “The Tourism We Want” which will be led by representatives from the tourism sector in Bali. UNWTO member countries will be invited to strengthen the celebrations and key messages of World Tourism Day.


Apart from enriching the 42nd World Tourism Day celebration, Sandiaga said, the MOTCE will organize a series of Road to World Tourism Day 2022 program with activity programs such as seminars, competitions, social services, clean rivers, and reforestation involving tourism stakeholders in all over Indonesia and six tourism polytechnics under the auspices of the MOTCE.


“The MOTCE also encourage all other tourism pentahelix stakeholders such as local governments and regional tourism offices, tourism associations/institutions, tourism businesses, the media, to participate in celebrating World Tourism Day in their own way,” Sandiaga continued. 


Meanwhile, the Acting Deputy for Resources and Institutions of the MOTCE, Frans Teguh, added that through this activity, tourism is expected to be part of the nation development to a better direction. “This means that tourism belongs to us together and we want to encourage and ensure that we can build the nation together through tourism,” according to Frans.


Also attending this activity were the entire echelon I officials within the MOTCE.
