Religious Tourism While Admiring the Beauty of Mosque Architecture in Indonesia

0

Being one of the popular religious tourism destinations, mosques in Indonesia not only bring inner peace to anyone who worships inside. But, the beauty of mosques in Indonesia also successfully impresses many people.

In Indonesia, which is predominantly Muslim, we can easily find mosques anywhere. Interestingly, nowadays many mosques are built using contemporary architectural styles, attracting the attention of the wider community to come and visit.

The magnificent building of the mosque, decorations, carvings, and even the mosque interior that are carefully considered by architects, make each mosque unique in Indonesia and very interesting to be used as one of the religious tourism destinations during Ramadan.

Here are some recommendations for Sobat Parekraf who want to worship while admiring the beauty of unique mosque architecture in Indonesia:

Sheikh Zayed Mosque, Solo

The newest religious tourism destination in Solo, Sheikh Zayed Mosque was built as a symbol of friendship between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The mosque’s architectural design resembles the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, which was created by an architect named Yusef Abdelki.

Although it is smaller than Abu Dhabi’s, the Sheikh Zayed Mosque shares the same white color scheme with gold ornamentation. The mosque’s architecture is further embellished with four Middle Eastern style towers and a main dome. At night, blue lighting enhances the beauty of the mosque’s building.

99 Domes Mosque, Makassar

Makassar also has a mosque with a unique architectural style, namely the 99 Domes Mosque. The architect of this mosque is Ridwan Kamil. The meaning of the numerous domes of this mosque represents the Asmaul Husna. The mosque's domes consist of a striking combination of red, yellow, and orange colors yet still look very beautiful.

Located on the edge of Losari Beach, 99 Domes Mosque looks very beautiful during Maghrib time, or when the sun sets. As Sobat Parekraf sees the mosque building, the orange sky, and the enchanting sea. No wonder this mosque has become an icon of religious tourism in Makassar.

Great Mosque of Tubaba, Lampung

As the largest center of worship in Lampung, the West Tulang Bawang Islamic Center has one of the religious tourism icons, namely the Great Mosque of Tubaba or the Great Mosque of Baitul Shobur, which floats above the water.

The Great Mosque of Tubaba has a unique architecture. You can see the mosque building with a size of 34x34 meters, which is supported by 114 concrete pillars. On the dome, we will find a five-sided shape that symbolizes the five daily prayers.

In addition, the mosque also has a tower that is 30 meters high, which represents the 30 juz (parts) in the Quran. The architecture of the Great Mosque of Tubaba is so beautiful that the architect, Andra Matin, received the highest architecture award from the Venice Biennale Architecture in Venice, Italy.

Al Jabar Mosque, Bandung

The next mosque with unique and beautiful architecture is the Al Jabar Mosque in Bandung. As an icon of religious tourism in West Java, Al Jabar Mosque can accommodate up to 30 thousand worshippers with several other supporting facilities such as museums and educational galleries about Islam.

Inspired by the algebraic formula, this mosque has symmetrical and geometric ornaments on each side. Interestingly, this mosque is designed to have 27 doors that symbolize the 27 districts and cities in West Java with unique carvings. Another uniqueness of this mosque is the cone-shaped stacked roof with colored glass.

Al Safar Mosque

The next contemporary mosque is Al Safar Mosque. Located at the rest area at km 88 of the Purbaleunyi toll road, the architecture of Al Safar Mosque always attracts the attention of toll road users. The mosque was designed by Ridwan Kamil using the theory of folding architecture or the technique of folding paper (origami) research.

The uniqueness of this mosque lies in its asymmetrical shape, with the roof of the mosque resembling the typical headband of the Sundanese community. In addition, this mosque faces forward in a diagonal shape. As a result, Sobat Parekraf can see the mosque building while passing the toll road.

Due to its unique design, Al Safar Mosque once received the “Abdullatif Al Fozan Award” for the best architecture in 2019 in Saudi Arabia, along with 26 other mosques in the world.

Babah Alun Mosque

With a semi-classical concept, the architecture of the Babah Alun Mosque is striking as we enter the Depok-Antasari (Desari) toll gate. At first glance, this mosque looks like a temple, but in the center of the building there is a dome that characterizes a mosque.

The mosque is dominated by a combination of red, green, and golden yellow colors that are thick with Chinese nuances. These colors symbolize luck, prosperity, and glory. Not to forget, Betawi elements also color the fence of the mosque.

Permata Qolbu Mosque, Jakarta

Carrying a contemporary design, the Permata Qolbu Mosque stands tall in the Permata Mediterania Housing area, Jakarta. This mosque is dominated by white with large columns towering up and divided.

The interior of these columns is inspired by human fingers praying and forming the word of Allah in the dome. At night, Sobat Parekraf can see lights that make a mosque’s architecture look even more luxurious.

Let's visit these beautiful mosques while focusing on worship during this Ramadan, Sobat Parekraf!
